Women’s Water Polo Plays at Home on Saturday and Sunday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After playing 11 of its last 13 games away from home, Santa Clara women's water polo will have its next four, including three Golden Coast Conference contests, in Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The Broncos start that home stretch Saturday at 1 p.m. against Harvard (7-8), which is in the midst of a seven-game California road trip. The Crimson, ranked 20th in the nation, lost at No. 9 Pacific, 9-5, on Wednesday. Harvard plays at San Jose State on Friday.

Santa Clara (5-13, 0-1) plays its second GCC game of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. when Fresno Pacific (10-8, 0-0) comes to town. Harvard defeated the Sunbirds, 14-4, on Tuesday, snapping a five-game Fresno Pacific winning streak.

Santa Clara got back on the winning track Saturday with an 11-7 victory at Cal State Easy Bay behind a game-high three goals from sophomore Hannah Buck.

Buck leads the team in goals (25) and kickouts drawn (40). Senior Cathy Cantoni leads the team in both assists (13) and steals (14), and is tied for second with 11 kickouts drawn.

Senior Francesca Puccinelli has started all 18 games in net for Santa Clara and has produced seven double-digit save totals.

Harvard and Santa Clara met last season at UC Santa Barbara with the Crimson prevailing 7-5. Last year, the Broncos won 6-3 at Fresno Pacific.

Santa Clara is off next week before facing GCC members Azusa Pacific on Friday, March 31, and Loyola Marymount the following day.
