Women’s Water Polo Returns to Golden Coast Conference Play This Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo continues its season closing stretch of five straight on the road this week with a pair of Golden Coast Conference games in Southern California.

The Broncos face the Concordia Eagles on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and Cal Baptist Lancers the next day at 4 p.m. with seeding for the GCC Championship, set for April 28-30 in Santa Clara, on the line.

Santa Clara (6-17, 1-3) is coming off an 8-5 road loss to Sonoma State on Saturday. Annie Eldredge had a game-high tying three goals and Francesca Puccinelli went the distance in net for the Broncos, registering 13 blocks, her 10th double-digit output of the season.

Concordia (7-15, 0-3) has dropped its last five contests, including a pair of GCC games last week to Fresno Pacific and Pacific.

Cal Baptist (15-11, 1-3) has captured eight of its last 11 outings though was upended 8-6 by Loyola Marymount on Thursday in a GCC affair.

Sophomore Hannah Buck continues to pace the Santa Clara offense with a team-best 33 goals. She has also accounted for a team-high 50 kickouts drawn.

Senior Cathy Cantoni leads the team in both assists (19) and steals (19).

Last season, the Broncos split at home against Cal Baptist and Concordia. They lost to the Lancers, 8-5, but defeated the Eagles, 14-1.

Santa Clara closes out the regular season with games at Pacific (April 22) and at UC Davis (April 23).
