IRVINE, Calif. – Hannah Buck and Annie Eldredge scored three goals apiece to lead a balanced offensive attack for the Santa Clara women's water pole team, which downed Concordia, 14-8, in Wednesday's Golden Coast Conference matchup.
Susan Providenza had two goals, two assists and four steals, and Hailey Eberle also scored twice while posting a career-high three assists for the Broncos (7-17, 2-3) who went 4 of 6 with the man advantage. Buck scored on the team's lone 5-meter attempt.
Cathy Cantoni had a career-high four assists and scored once against the Eagles (7-16, 0-4) who connected on all three 5-meter attempts, but were just 3 of 10 with the extra attacker.
The Broncos were able to take control early in the game, scoring five of the six opening-period goals, and building a 10-4 halftime lead at Woollett Aquatics Center.
"The team came out with good energy on defense and counterattacks, and that got our offense going," Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur said.
Francesca Puccinelli started in net for Santa Clara and registered two saves. Lydia Dadd played the second half and turned aside three Concordia shots and had two of the team's 15 steals.
The Broncos will remain in Southern California and face Cal Baptist (15-11, 1-3) on Thursday at 4 p.m. in another GCC contest. The Lancers have won eight of their last 11 outings.
