Women’s Water Polo Sophomore Earns Weekly Award

LOS ANGELESHannah Buck of Santa Clara women's water polo was rewarded for leading the team to a pair of wins last week.

Buck was named Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week for helping lead the Broncos to a pair of league wins by scoring six goals, drawing four kickouts and posting three steals.

The sophomore utility player scored a game-high tying three goals on just four attempts, and three steals in Wednesday's 14-8 victory over Concordia, which snapped a three-game skid. The following day, Buck again tallied a game-high tying three goals and three kickouts drawn in a 7-6 win against Cal Baptist. She had two goals in just more than a one-minute span of the third quarter to help the Broncos build a 6-2 lead in a game they never trailed.

"Hannah has been great all season, and she was instrumental in both our games last week, especially in our conference road win against #25 Cal Baptist," Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur said. "I very happy to see her get recognized for her outstanding play."

Buck is the team leader in goals (39) and kickouts drawn (53), and ranks tied for third in steals (17).

Santa Clara (8-17, 3-3) has two more regular-season games, facing Pacific on Saturday, in its final GCC contest and UC Davis the following day. Both of those games are on the road.

The seven-team GCC Championship will be held April 28-30 at Santa Clara.
