Women’s Water Polo Unable to Hold Off UC Davis in Final Regular-Season Contest

DAVIS, Calif. – Greta Kohlmoos scored three goals, Hannah Harvey and Paige Virgil each scored twice, and the 13th-ranked UC Davis Aggies rallied to down Santa Clara women's water polo 12-9 on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Cathy Cantoni posted a season-high four goals and Annie Eldredge matched her career high by scoring three times for the Broncos (8-19) who led from early in the opening quarter into the third.

Cantoni scored midway through the second period to give Santa Clara a 6-3 advantage, but the Aggies (15-16) pulled ahead with three goals in just more than a one-minute span after halftime.

Heather Johnson, one of eight UC Davis players to score, pushed the Aggies into a 7-6 lead by tallying a goal with 3:25 left in the third quarter.

UC Davis pulled away with two goals in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

Francesca Puccinelli posted 12 saves for the Broncos who ended the regular season tied for fourth in the Golden Coast Conference standings with Azusa Pacific and Cal Baptist.

Santa Clara will be the host institution for the three-day GCC Championship, which kicks off Friday at Sullivan Aquatic Center. The seven-team tournament features three games each day beginning at 10:30 a.m.
