SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's water polo team travels to San Diego on Saturday to compete in the two-day Triton Invitational.

The Broncos (1-2) will face No. 7 UC Irvine at UC San Diego's Canyonview Pool on Saturday at 11:10 a.m.

"We're going to be playing four games over the weekend, and there is a strong field with 12 of the 16 teams being ranked in the top 25," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "Weekends like this can be challenging, but they can also be a really good growing opportunity.  We have a younger team, so going in with the mentality that we are going to improve every single game is key to our approach."

The starting line-up features five new faces, including goaltender Lydia Dadd and field players Hailey Eberle, Maggie Oys, Lauren Paxton and Kelly Frumpkin. Junior Hannah Buck is once again the team leader in goals, 11. Eberle follows with four, and Paxton, Annie Eldredge and Mara Dominguez with three each.

Santa Clara is using the week of practice to focus on defensive strategy and communication.

"The focus this week has been on defense," said Wilbur. "After the first two weekends, it is clear that we are playing hard on defense, but we can be more aware, communicate better, and get more in sync with each other.  This is all about developing chemistry which is normal this early in the season."

Santa Clara will face either Long Beach State or CSUN in the Saturday afternoon session.

The Broncos will compete in two more games Sunday.

Video streaming or live stats will not be available.
