BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Santa Clara women's water polo dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the Indiana Classic.

In Saturday's action, the Broncos (7-9), playing without a pair of starters, were upended 11-7 by Marist and then fell to host and 10th-ranked Indiana, 10-3.

Game One: Marist 11, Santa Clara 7

The Red Foxes scored four goals in a 4-minute span beginning late in the first quarter to erase a 2-1 Santa Clara lead. Tijerina started the flurry with two goals in the final 2:36 of the opening period.

The Broncos were able to close within two goals three times during the remainder of the game, but could not get over the hump.

Annie Eldredge's goal cut the deficit to 8-6 just after halftime, but the Red Foxes scored the next three while Santa Clara, playing without starters Mara Dominguez and Lauren Paxton, went scoreless for a 13-minute stretch.

Game Two: Indiana 10, Santa Clara 3

Emily Powell, Jennifer Beadle and Joelle Nacouzi scored two goals apiece to lead 10th-ranked Indiana to a 10-3 win over the Broncos.

The Hoosiers scored three goals in the second period during an offensive drought for Santa Clara to build a 5-1 lead.

Hailey Eberle scored early in the third period to pull the Broncos within 5-2, snapping a stretch of more than 10 minutes without a goal.

But Indiana scored twice in the final three minutes of the third quarter, including one with 2 seconds left by Beadle that increased the lead to five.

The Broncos went 1-for-7 with the man advantage, while the Hoosiers connected on 2 of 4.
