Women’s Water Polo Dives Back Into Competition

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's water polo team dives back into play on Saturday, facing Concordia and Cal State East Bay.

Santa Clara (9-9, 1-0) plays Concordia at 10 a.m. in a game presented by DICK'S Sporting Goods and Cal St. East Bay at 4:30 p.m. at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

The matchup against Concordia (5-6, 0-1) is just the Broncos' second Golden Coast Conference game of the season.

"It's an important game," said head coach Keith Wilbur. "We haven't seen Concordia this year, and they're probably a much different team than last year. We know it is a big game, and we are definitely focused in on it."

The Broncos had a break from competition last weekend and have been gearing up to play host to these two games. In addition, Concordia and Cal State East Bay will face off at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at Sulivan Aquatic Center.

Santa Clara has faced Cal State East Bay two times this season. The Pioneers (7-7) defeated the Broncos 11-10, on Feb. 3, and Santa Clara beat Cal St. East Bay, 7-6, during the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego (Feb. 10-11).

"It's a really good rivalry, and it has been for a long time," said Wilbur. "This is our third and final time playing each other this year, so it's a big game. It is good competition, and we match up well. We both know each other's personnel, and we'll be aware of that when we play each other."

Next up, the Broncos travel to San Jose State on Saturday, March 24.
