FRESNO, Calif. – Hannah Carrillo and Emily Bennett each scored three times, and Maura Cantoni turned aside 16 shots to help second-seeded San Diego State outlast Santa Clara women's water polo, 10-7, in one of Friday's quarterfinal games in the Golden Coast Conference Championship.

The Aztecs (16-14) scored four times in the first 3 minutes of action to open an early lead and needed just 18 shots on goal to reach Saturday's semifinals against Loyola Marymount.

Maggie Oys tallied a career-high three goals and Gabi Sicat scored twice for the Broncos (8-17) who rallied from two four-goal deficits to close within two late in the third quarter.

Oys' second strike cut the deficit to 7-5 with 2:01 remaining in the third but Bennett scored with the extra attacker 18 seconds later and Shelby Kraft tallied one of her two goals to reestablish a four-goal cushion.

Haley Hagerty's goal with 5:13 left in the opening period gave the Aztecs a 4-1 lead, which was extended to 6-2 just before halftime on Carrillo's second marker.

Cantoni had six of her saves during the third quarter of action to help stave off the Santa Clara rally in the opening day of play in the three-day event at Fresno State.

Lydia Dadd suffered the loss in net after posting three saves.
