Women's Water Polo Splits on Opening Day of the Claremont Convergence Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Santa Clara women's water polo split their opening day at the Claremont Covergence Tournament on Friday, falling to La Salle 12-9 in game one before bouncing back in game two defeat Augustana, 16-8, later in the evening. 

La Salle 12, Santa Clara 9

The Explorers (4-7) extended their early lead over the Broncos (2-9) with a strong third quarter including four goals and solid defense, holding the Broncos to just one goal. 

Lauren Baglietto led Bronco's offense with four goals, and five other players scored once for the Broncos. 

Liyara Senadheera posted 13 saves for the Broncos. 

The Broncos had a strong fourth quarter, including four goals, but they were unable to recover. 

Santa Clara 16, Augustana 8

Lauren Baglietto, Elle Fredrickson, and Sophia Harvey had three goals each to lead the Broncos to a 16-8 victory over Augustana (1-5) later Friday evening. 

The Broncos had an early 3-0 lead over the Vikings, and they continued to stretch their lead over the course of the game. 

Lauren Voss posted a goal, three assists and a steal for the Broncos. 

Mia Battilega, Chloe Morrison, and Kelly Frumkin posted two goals each. 

NOTES:

The Broncos will play Villanova at 9:00 a.m. and Siena at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.
