Women's Water Polo Returns Home to Host Nationally Ranked Foes

 

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara University women's water polo team returns home to the Sullivan Aquatic Center to host nationally ranked opponents No.13 Pacific and No.15 Harvard on Saturday.

NOTES

  •  #13 Pacific and #15 Harvard will also face each other in a neutral match on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

  • Sophomore Kate Rodman leads the Broncos with a team-high 36 goals. 

  • Goalie Liyara Senadheera has 104 saves so far this season. 

  • On Friday and Saturday, Santa Clara returned once again to Southern California to face LMU and Azusa Pacific in Golden Coast Conference play, falling in both games.

  • During the week of March 2, the women's team traveled to Southern California for five games for the Claremont Convergence Tournament, as well as their GCC opener at Concordia. 

    • For their first game in Southern California, SCU water polo narrowly fell, 11-8, in its GCC opener at Concordia on March 2.

    • On the first day of the Claremont Convergence Tournament, they earned a split as they defeated Cal State Fullerton, 17-5, in the afternoon after narrowly falling to Villanova, 9-6, in the morning.

    • On the final day of the tournament, the Broncos split again this time, with a major 21-8 win over Westcliff University followed by a close 16-12 setback versus Long Island University.

  • The Broncos defeated Cal State East Bay, 8-5, on Feb. 25, scoring two goals in every period. 

  • The Broncos had a two-game split in the Bronco Invitational on February 19,  beating Cal State Monterey Bay, 12-8, in a rematch from their season opener and fell to Marist, 17-11.

  • Santa Clara went 1-3 in the Bruno Classic, hosted by Brown University. Santa Clara earned its first victory of the season on Saturday, beating Siena, 12-9. They were barely edged Saturday morning, 11-10, by Bucknell and fell, 12-5, to Long Island University. SCU played much better on Sunday, and was nearly victorious against Saint Francis (Pa.) but ultimately fell, 10-9. 

  • Santa Clara will play 14 games from the comfort of home at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. 

    • They hosted a home tournament during the weekend of Feb. 18-19. 

  • The Broncos return 16 players from last year's roster, including fifth-years Lauren Baglietto and Lauren Voss. Baglietto was honored as a second-team all-conference selection last year at the season's end.

  • A total of five newcomers joined the SCU roster in the offseason - Sophomore Stephanie Nelson and freshmen Megan Chambliss, Sydney Maccabe, Avary Torres, and Mila Erceg
