Fredrickson's Late Heroics Carry Women's Water Polo to "Golden" Victory over Pioneers

HAYWARD, Calif. — Elle Fredrickson scored each of the Santa Clara University women's water polo team's goals in overtime and the Broncos earned a thrilling 14-13 "golden goal" victory on the road over Cal State East Bay in a non-conference game at Pioneer Pool.

Fredrickson led all players with six goals on the day, but it was her final three – and even moreso, her last one – that were the biggest.

Fredrickson pulled the Broncos (10-17) within one goal with only 51 seconds on the clock, making it 13-12. She tied the game in huge fashion, putting the ball in the back of the net with only one second left on the clock, making it 13-13.

Then, it was Fredrickson who would score the golden goal in the sudden victory period, clinching the 14-13 triumph.

Sydney Mccabe scored three goals, while Lauren Baglietto, Maddie Clough, Harper Daniels, Kate Rodman and Lauren Voss all scored one each. Clough tallied a game-high four assists. Liyara Senadheera made 11 saves in net for the Broncos.

Cal State East Bay (13-14) had five players with multiple goals, led by three from Luna Sarmiento. 

The Broncos next host No. 17 Indiana at 11 a.m. Sunday in a non-conference game at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
