Ryan Merz was hired as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance in August 2019. Merz had previously been at San Jose State University where he served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance for 2.5 years.
Prior to his time at SJSU, Merz worked as the Director of Compliance at the University of San Francisco and the Compliance Coordinator at the University of California, Irvine. He has also interned with San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego. Prior to entering college athletics, Merz spent five years in corporate compliance with Coca-Cola.
Merz earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science (1998) and Law & Justice (2000) from the University of Washington and Central Washington University, respectively. In 2002, he received an MA in Criminal Justice Administration from Boise State University. Merz also served in the United State Army from 1990 to 1993 prior to college. In his free time, Merz enjoys attending sporting events, traveling, and enjoying all the Bay Area has to offer.
