SAN FRANCISCO — Santa Clara track and field scored three victories and totaled eight top-four finishes Saturday during the Johnny Mathis Invitational at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium. Ross Corey finished first in the 800m run while Ben Davidson (3000m steeplechase) and Greer Chrisman (400m hurdles) won their respective events.

"We had a great day at the track," head coach Felipe Montoro said. "[Associate head coach Pete Cushman] and I were pleased with our overall competitiveness."

The strong performances included a second-place finish for Hannah Wood in the 800m and third-place finishes for Julia Wood (5000m) and Jeffrey Stalun (1500m). Corey doubled up for the Broncos and finished in fourth place in the 1500m, just 0.21 seconds behind his teammate Stalun. Joey Berriatua finished in fourth place in the 5000m. Julia Green put together a strong effort to win her 1500m section.

"The middle-distance group looked particularly sharp," Montoro said. "Hannah Wood and Julia Green had stood out for the women's team. Brennan Lagerstrom and Ross Corey had two of many solid performances for the men."

Santa Clara continues a stretch of three meets in three weekends at the Kim Duyst Invitational next Saturday in Turlock, California.
