NAMPA, Idaho — Sarah King got Santa Clara women's track & field off to a good start on Saturday at the Boise State-hosted Bronco Challenge. The sophomore made the most of her 3,000-meter collegiate debut by capturing her heat at Jacksons Track in the Ford Idaho Center (Nampa, Idaho).
King's 10:36.19 was good for third among teammates and 22nd in the field. Emma McCurry posted Santa Clara's fastest time with a 10:27.49 (16th overall) and Noelani Obermeyer took 21st overall with a 10:36.19. McCurry finished within three seconds of Nevada's Lauryn Massic, who won the second heat.
The Broncos also fielded teams for the 4x400-meter relay and distance medley relay.

ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH PETE CUSHMAN: "Our primary objective was to execute good racing strategy rather than getting caught up in splits and time. With that in mind, getting a heat win from Sarah and a close second from Emma shows me we met that objective. This was a very good starting point for the season."
NEXT UP
The women's and men's teams are back on the track Feb. 23 at the Santa Clara-hosted West Coast Invitational. The Broncos will race at nearby Bellarmine College Prep in San José, California.
