Tony Coffey is in his sixth season as volunteer assistant coach for Santa Clara cross country/track & field in 2022-23. Coffey, hired in January 2019, works primarily to develop the 10k runners in the women’s program.

Coffey is head coach of the San Francisco-based Impala Racing Team. He started as an assistant coach with the Impalas in 2000 before being appointed to his current position in 2003. Coffey, a USA Track & Field Level II Certified Coach, has coached 32 athletes to Olympic Trials qualification since 2004.

Coffey has run competitively since 1976 across multiple levels: high school, college, open and masters. He ran cross country/track & field at Harvard and graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and economics, then went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from UCLA.
