Baseball’s Brodt Named Rawlings WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO Calif.Jake Brodt earned Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors aided by his historic performance hitting two grand slams in one inning, becoming just the seventh Division I player to accomplish the feat since the NCAA began keeping records in 1957.  The conference office made the announcement on Monday.

Brodt blasted two grand slams in the seventh inning of Saturday's 20-9 win against Boston College, helping head coach Rusty Filter with his first win at Santa Clara.

The senior from Huntington Beach, California, is the first to record the feat since T.J. Soto of Louisiana Tech did it against Western Kentucky in 2000.

The first grand slam came with Santa Clara trailing 9-7 and gave the Broncos the go ahead lead.  The second grand slam came with the Broncos ahead 16-9.  Brodt also hit a solo home run in the sixth inning along with a sacrifice fly in the first to drive in 10 runs in the game.

For the series, the six-foot-five first baseman hit safely in all three games batting .462 (6-for-13) with a slugging percentage of 1.231.

This is Brodt's second Rawlings WCC Player of the Week honor of his Santa Clara career.  His first honor came back in May 1, 2017.
