Baseball Falls to CSUN on Sunday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Isaiah Nunez stymied the Santa Clara baseball lineup and CSUN scored in four of the first five innings to beat the Broncos, 7-2 on Sunday in the nonconference series finale.

CSUN starter Nunez tossed seven innings, allowed four hits and one run while five different Matadors drove in runs.

Against Santa Clara starter Holden Bernhardt, who was making his first career start, Victor Cerny (2-for-2, 2 R, RBI) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to give CSUN a 1-0 lead.

The Matadors (12-13) added a run in the third, two more runs in the fourth on three extra base hits and three runs in the fifth including a bases loaded two-RBI single by Andrew Lucas (1-for-3, 2 RBIs). Lucas had the only multi-RBI game for CSUN.

Jason Dicochea (1-for-4, R, RBI) put the Broncos on the board with a solo home run in the sixth, his third homer of the season, against Nunez.

The Broncos (3-18) scored in the top of the ninth on Matt Jew's (1-for-3, RBI) sacrifice fly to bring home Jake MacNichols (1-for-4, R) who led the inning off with a double, to make it 7-2.

The starters were the pitchers on record with Nunez (4-2) getting the win and Bernhardt (0-2) the loss.
