SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball has signed five players to National Letters of Intent. Ben Cleary, Isaac Hawthrone, Jace Gillmore, Jack Lazark, and Ty Alleman will join the Broncos for the 2024 season.
Ty Alleman | P | 6-0 | Jesuit HS | Portland, Ore.
Alleman was first team all-league and second team all-state as a junior when he tossed 43 2/3 innings with a 0.30 ERA, a 6-0 record, two saves, and 52 strikeouts. That season his Jesuit High School team were Metro League champions with a 20-4 record.
During his junior summer, he played for Benz Baseball and went 5-0 with a 1.90 ERA and 50 punchouts in 34 1/3 innings. The team won the Gonzaga Mid-Summer Classic title.
His competitive nature along with his advanced pitchability will allow Alleman to compete for innings right away.
Alleman volunteered at Touchmark where he worked with the elderly and the Life Enrichment team. He also volunteered at the Covid clinic at his local church.
"Tyler has put up great numbers each time he goes out. His competitiveness and pitchability are separators and will allow him to compete for innings right away next year. He comes from a great HS program in Jesuit HS (Portland) so we know he's well prepared." -Head coach Rusty Filter
Ben Cleary | MIF | 6-0 | Junipero Serra HS | Half Moon Bay, Calif.
Cleary was named First Team All-WCAL as a junior and was named the WCAL Defensive Player of the Year. He hit .333 with a .434 on-base percentage.
Cleary played in the Area Code Games in 2022. His Alpha Power team won the ETI Invitational and the WWBA Qualifier during the summer, where he was named MVP.
His size and athleticism separate him from the pack and will allow him to play shortstop upon joining the Broncos.
His father Tom played football at Santa Clara from 1989-93.
In his free time, Cleary enjoys fishing.
"Ben has the ability to change the game with his offensive and defensive tools. He makes the game look easy while showing off his baseball instincts. He will make our middle infield better from day one next year." -Head coach Rusty Filter
Jace Gillmore | P | 6-3 | Whitney HS | Rocklin, Calif.
Gillmore was 14-0 with 10 complete games during his junior year as his team's ace. He was named the Sac-Hi Sports Pitcher of the Year and the SFL League MVP while also earning a Max Prep All-American nod. He helped his team win the San Joaquin Section championship.
Over the summer he was a standout on the mound with the Alpha Power 2023 team.
He has a projectable frame and the fastball command to impact the program quickly.
Gillmore's cousin is Kyle DeMerritt who played for the Broncos from 2011-13.
"All Jace has done is win whenever he pitches and we're thrilled to get him officially in our Bronco Boys culture. The tall righty is poised and polished with his three-pitch mix and we expect him to come in and help our rotation right away next year." -Head coach Rusty Filter
Isaac Hawthrone | IF/P | 6-2 | Woodcreek HS | Roseville, Calif.
Hawthrone was his high school team's MVP in 2019. During high school he maintained a 4.0 GPA all four years while playing basketball and baseball.
From 2019-22, Hawthrone was a part of MLB's Development Programs including the Breakthrough Series, Hank Aaron Invitational, and Dream Series. He was one of 44 players selected from the Hank Aaron Invitational to play at Truist Park. During the summer he played for Show Cali playing first base, third base, and pitching.
Hawthrone has also played for the Royals scout team in 2021 and 2022 and for the Oakland A's Area Code team in 2021.
He brings upside on the mound and with his power bat.
"Isaac oozes with projectability and we're extremely excited that he is becoming a Bronco. He shows great versatility on the diamond with the ability to lock down both corner infield spots, provide a middle of the order bat, and get on the mound and compete." -Head coach Rusty Filter
Jack Lazark | P/IF | 6-1 | Cardinal Newman HS | Santa Rosa, Calif.
Lazark helped his high school team to the NCS Championship during 2022 and was named all-conference while playing shortstop and pitching. During his time in high school, Lazark was a four-time scholar-athlete and was on the Dean's List each year.
His physicality and work ethic are some of his strongest attributes and match well with his skills on the baseball field.
During his free time, Lazark enjoys doing field work, fundraisers, youth clinics, and umpiring at Santa Rosa American Little League.
"We've tracked Jack for a while and have really enjoyed watching his game develop. He is a physical athlete who can lock down shortstop but also will come in and punch guys out from the bullpen. His high school program is one of the best in Northern California so we know he'll arrive well prepared." -Head coach Rusty Filter
