SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's basketball has signed two players who will begin competition in 2020-21.
Christian Caryle, who spent the last four years at Florida Gulf Coast University, and Trent Hudgens Jr., who just completed his high school career, will join the Broncos in the fall.
"We are excited to welcome Christian and Trent to our Santa Clara University community and our basketball family," head coach Herb Sendek said. "Trent joins us having led his Ironwood High School team to an Arizona State Championship. Christian continues his college career having established himself as a skilled, versatile competitor."
Carlyle, a 6-foot-6 guard who has one season of eligibility left, missed 2019-20 due to injury, but averaged 8.1 points and 3.3 rebounds as a junior. During 2017-18, he helped the team capture the Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season title and earn a trip to the NIT.
A native of Phoenix, Hudgens Jr., a 6-foot-2 guard, helped lead Ironwood High School to the 2020 state title, its first in school history. He averaged 18.7 points, 4.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game in his senior season when he was one of eight finalists for the Arizona Republic Player of the Year. Hudgens Jr. was also a first-team all-state selection.
Carlyle played in 79 career games, including 29 starts, with Florida Gulf Coast after a standout career at Bishop Kenny High School where he was the 2016 Florida 5A Player of the Year as a senior.
Hudgens is ranked No. 4 among high school recruits in the state of Arizona by MaxPreps.
"Combining Christian and Trent with our talented, experienced core of returners gives rise to tremendous excitement about the upcoming season," Sendek said.
