SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's and women's rowing teams will compete at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships this weekend at Lake Natoma. It is the final regatta of the year for the Broncos.
The women's crew has one boat racing in the Women's Varsity Lightweight 8. It will race at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
"This is a big race for the Lightweights as they will go toe-to-toe with No. 2 Stanford," said head coach Carlo Facchino. "During the regular season out lightweights were mixed in with our Varsity competing in an openweight category. The PCRC Regatta falls after our typical race schedule, thus giving us a chance to focus on the lightweight 8."
At the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, Santa Clara's women's Lightweight 8 placed third.
"They have been rowing together all week," said Facchino. "We're looking to give Stanford a very competitive race."
Based on the outcome the Women's Lightweight 8 has a chance to break into the U.S. Rowing National Rankings. The Bronco men are entering a Men's Varsity 4 and a Varsity Lightweight 4.
