Men's Rowing Concludes Season at IRA National Championships

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's rowing finishes its season at the IRA National Championships Saturday and Sunday on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey.

Last time out, the Broncos had a solid showing at Western Sprints.

Despite being one of the last teams in the country to get on the water and all of the restrictions of Santa Clara County, the Broncos find themselves once again at IRAs.

"The team is looking forward to another trip to Lake Mercer to attend the IRA National Championship Regatta," Santa Clara head coach Jay Farwell said. "Each year the IRA Regatta showcases the best teams in the country and to have the opportunity once again to compete is something we do not take for granted. The last year has been full of twists and turns with the pandemic and through the team's perseverance we find ourselves with a meaningful and competitive season."

The only senior on the roster is Martin London who will be the coxswain but the crew has found combinations they like as they head into the final weekend.

"This is a very young team and there has been a great deal of growth and experience gained by the team," Farwell said. "We had a very aggressive schedule facing some of the best teams in the country early on in our season. While we took a few bumps and bruises during these races, we learned a lot and ultimately found lineups for the Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 that had some chemistry and speed. The team is going to gain a lot more experience competing at the IRA this Friday and Saturday as it will be the first time we are racing in a fully buoyed course and six boats across."
