Travers Named 2nd Alternate for USGA Amateur

    SAN MATEO, Calif. - Scott Travers of the Santa Clara men's golf team was named a second alternate for the 2009 USGA Amateurs, which will be held on Aug. 24-30 at Southern Pines Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. Travers finished fifth at the qualifiers at Peninsula Golf and Country Club in San Francisco, Calif.

    The Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native shot 140 (-2) on the day with individual round scores of 72 and 68, respectively. In the 36-hole stroke play qualifier, the top three low individuals advanced and two were named individuals. Earlier this summer, Travers advanced to the quarterfinals of the 98th Annual California State Amateur Championship where he fell 3 and 1 to the defending champion Nick Delio.

    Medaling was Jordan Cox of Redwood City. He finished five-under 137 (69-68). Finishing one stroke behind was Joseph Bramlett of Saratoga (138/70-68). Dash Lindsell and Spencer Fletcher tied for third at three-under par 139. Fletcher earned the last spot after a playoff, while Lindsell was named the first alternate.

    Also competing in the qualifier were Broncos Tyler Ichikawa, Jonathan Keane, Jimmy Cacho and Danny Cacho. Ichikawa tied for 10th place at two-over 144. He shot round of 73 and 71 on the day. Recent alumnus Keane, who just won the Seattle Amateur Championship, tied for 22nd at six-over 148. He shot back-to-back rounds of 74. The Cacho brothers tied for 42nd and 59th, respectively. Jimmy shot rounds of 76 and 79 to finish 13-over 155, while Danny had rounds of 82 and 79 to finish 19-over 161.
