SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Alan Camacho Soto made his first Santa Clara start and it paid immediate dividends for the Broncos, assisting on a pair of goals including the opening goal by Andres Jimenez just 41 seconds into the match to help the Broncos to a 2-0 win over Cal Poly (2-4-1) in a nonconference match on Tuesday.
Santa Clara men's soccer head coach Cam Rast made a couple of starting lineup changes inserting Camacho Soto up top and putting Alex Achramowicz wide to create more scoring chances.
"When you are playing through a season, you want to find players who are in form. Alan is strong with the ball and he, along with the entire team, got off to a strong start today," said Rast. "And Achramowicz has been playing well and he put in a great shift today causing a lot of problems for Cal Poly."
The Broncos (2-5) responded to the changes scoring in the opening minute of the match when Camacho Soto took a pass inside the 18 from the wing, shielded the defender with his body before dropping a pass to Jimenez who one timed it from 10 yards out. The shot clipped the underside of the cross bar before bouncing in for the second quickest goal in Bronco history. Back in 1991, Alberto Cruz scored the quickest goal for the Broncos, 29 seconds into the match.
Camacho Soto was in the thick of the action again in the 20th minute when he fed Javier Ruiz Duran for a shot inside the 18 that beat the Cal Poly goalkeeper, Simon Boehme, however it was cleared off the line by a Mustang defender.
In the 24th minute, the Camacho Soto to Ruiz Duran combination would strike again this time to the tune of a goal. Camacho Soto got the ball from about 40 yards out, turned and passed it Ruiz Duran who was running diagonally from right to left behind Camacho Soto. Ruiz Duran took one dribble before getting off a shot from the left side of the box grazing the finger tips of Boehme to find the side netting on the far post. It was the sophomore's second goal of season to tie Jimenez for the team lead.
Both teams got off 15 shots each with seven on frame for the Broncos and four for the Mustangs. Henning Jolivet made his season debut in net for the Broncos and was credited with four saves to earn his first career win.
"We just needed to see where Henning was. He is a big guy and intimidating. So with that imposing size, perhaps Cal Poly felt like they needed to put the ball in places so extreme to cause them to miss," said Rast of the 6-foot-4, 200 pound redshirt sophomore goalkeeper.
Rast was also pleased with the play of the backline starting junior Dylan Carrubba for the second consecutive match along with the freshmen trio of Martin Aasen, Sakari Carter and Emil Christensen who have started all season long to help the Broncos get its second shutout of the season.
"The backline was very solid tonight. We dealt with what we thought they would do. Carrubba seemed to settled down some as it is important for him and good for the team to be composed," said Rast.

After playing five consecutive road matches, the Broncos return home to Stevens Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 22 against Cal. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
NOTES:
• Henning Jolivet started in goal for the first time this season to earn a clean sheet in his first career Bronco win.
• A season-low three players – Sam Agosti, Miles Robinson and Julian Bravo - came off the bench totaling 62 minutes.
• The Broncos scored two goals in the opening half for the first time this season.
