SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Alan Camacho Soto's goal in the 75th minute was the difference giving Santa Clara men's soccer a 2-1 win over Pacific to earn their first West Coast Conference win of the season on Saturday night.
The Bronco junior's game-winning goal came just three minutes after Pacific (4-7-1, 1-1 WCC) tied it up on a well struck ball by John Rico-Contreres from 25-yards out. Rico-Contreres' rocket shot found the upper 90 past a diving SCU goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho.
Camacho Soto entered the match after Pacific's game-tying goal and made an immediate impact. He took a pass from Terrell Smith on the left side of the box, turned and lifted the ball past Tigers goalkeeper Ethan Bandre for the game-winner.
It was the third goal of the season for Camacho Soto, tying him for the team lead with Julian Bravo and Eduardo Lopez Perez, who scored in the first half to put Santa Clara (7-4-1, 1-1 WCC) up, 1-0.
In the 24th minute, Lopez Perez took a diagonal feed from Dylan Carrubba inside the box as his right-foot shot deflected off a Tiger defender to find the back of the net.
Santa Clara dominated the first half, getting off seven shots while not allowing a single Pacific shot. Chances were hard to come by for the Tigers until Rico-Contreres struck in the 72nd minute for one of eight shots in the second half.
However, the tie score was short lived, thanks to Camacho Soto's heroics.
