MORAGA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis and Saint Mary's finally played its conference match on Thursday after two rain postponements as the Broncos won, 5-1 under threatening skies at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
Santa Clara (12-4, 3-2 WCC) dropped the doubles point before stringing together five consecutive singles wins, including simultaneous wins on courts five and two to amass five points.
Saint Mary's (3-14, 1-5 WCC) clinched the doubles point on court three when David Abfalter and Daniel Krutik beat the senior tandem of Connor Garnett and Kamran Khan, 6-2.
But it was all Santa Clara there on after, winning each of the five singles matches in straight sets.
On court six, freshman Santiago Hinojosa took care of Boris Reckow, 6-1, 6-3 to even the team score at 1-all, followed by senior Robert Seby's triumph over Matis Bot, 6-3, 6-3 on court four.
Andrew Gu deposed of James Watt, 7-5, 7-3 on court one before the simultaneous wins by Arthur Neuhaus over Krutik, 6-3, 6-3 on court five and Garnett over Abhishek Bastola, 6-4, 6-2 on court two to clinch the team victory.
The match was originally slated for March 22 but rescheduled to April 2 before another postponement pushed it to Thursday due to rain.
