SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis signed Christian Lerby, a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining, from Arizona State.
Lerby will join the Broncos for the 2023 spring season after posting a career dual match record of 30-25 in singles and 21-22 in doubles in his three seasons with the Sun Devils. During his sophomore campaign in 2020-21, Lerby went 12-8 in singles playing mostly sixth in the lineup and had an identical 12-8 record in doubles at the No. 3 spot.
"I chose Santa Clara because I wanted something new and exciting," said Lerby. "Everybody is so involved and makes it feel like a family. Tennis wise I think we have a really good team and will have a chance of doing something special. I cannot wait to start in January and go to work."
The 6-foot-4 right-handed hitting Lerby is currently ranked 1746 in the ATP rankings (with a career-high of 1436) and a UTR ranking of 12.89.
"I am absolutely thrilled that Christian is joining our program," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus. "Christian has a wealth of high level experience and will make an instant impact on both the singles and doubles court. He is a player that I have admired for a long time, both for his tennis related skillset and his inherent leadership qualities. Christian will be an integral component of what we are building at Santa Clara and I am looking forward to seeing him compete in the Bronco maroon and white."
Welcome to @SantaClaraUniv, Christian Lerby!
