SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's water polo team travels to California Baptist for the three-day Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championship tournament.

The sixth-seeded Broncos (14-11, 2-5) will play No. 3 seed Loyola Marymount (13-11, 5-2) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Lancer Aquatics Center in Riverside, California.

Santa Clara closed out the regular season by winning six of its last seven contests. The only blemish in that stretch was a 12-5 loss at top-seeded UC Davis (13-7, 7-0) on Nov. 2.

The winner of the matchup between the Broncos and Lions will face either second-seeed UC San Diego (18-7, 6-1) or No. 7 seed Air Force (10-16, 1-6) in one of Saturday's semifinals.

The Broncos will lean on their senior class, which has provided much of the offensive production.

The top four goal scorers - Shane Hughes (51), Mac Carey (44), Ryan Werner (37) and Patrick Kirk (35) - are all in their final season. Carey (61) and Hughes (49) are also first and second on the team in assists.

LMU won the regular season meeting with Santa Clara by a score of 15-9 in Los Angeles on Oct. 17.

The winner of the eight-team tournament earns a bid to the NCAA Championship.
