MORAGA, Calif. — In the first matchup of a home-and-home set this week, Santa Clara volleyball lost 5-0 at No. 18 Saint Mary's on Wednesday in Moraga Commons. The Gaels won in straight sets at all positions in the West Coast Conference tilt.
The Saint Mary's top tandem of Lindsey Knudsen/Sarah Chase won its sixth-straight match and extended its team-best record to 15-5 on the season. The Gaels (14-6, 6-2 WCC) remain a perfect 13-0 against unranked opponents this year; they also defeated the Broncos (2-6, 2-5 WCC) at last weekend's WCC Midseason Invitational.
Gretchen Reinert/Brittany Gillingham (No. 4) came the closest to winning a set for Santa Clara as they reached 17 points in the second frame against Chandler Cowell/Jennifer "Boo" Laird.
The Broncos and Gaels meet for a 1 p.m. first serve on Saturday at the Santa Clara Beach Volleyball Courts.
