SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's golf has officially hired a pair of key additions to head coach Krystal Kelly's coaching staff, with Mary Weinstein joining the Broncos as the team's new assistant coach and Kim Cifuentes coming aboard as a volunteer assistant coach. Kelly made the announcement on Thursday.
"I'm really excited to welcome Mary and Kim to the Bronco Family," Kelly said. "Both of them were very accomplished players at the collegiate level and will bring a wealth of knowledge to our program. They both have a strong passion for the game of golf and will be incredible mentors for our team."
A phenomenal player at the collegiate ranks at the University of Denver, Weinstein joins Santa Clara after spending one season as a graduate assistant volunteer coach for the University of Indianapolis Women's Golf program. While balancing time between working towards her Master of Business of Administration with a concentration in data analytics, she was responsible for constructing weekly practice agendas, coordinating team travel and overseeing financial expenses for the team, among other duties. Weinstein graduated from the University of Denver with both a Bachelor of Science Business Administration - Finance and a Specialized Master of Science in Management.
On the course, Weinstein etched her name into the University of Denver Women's Golf history books, finishing her four-year career with a school-record 73.29 strorke average. She was ranked the No. 2 individual golfer in the nation according to Golfstat in September 2018 and was a three-time Colorado Golf Association Women's Player of the Year. In 2019-20, she was named the Colorado Golf Person of the Year by the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.
"I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to join an amazing program that is growing at such a fast pace," Weinstein said. "Working alsongside Coach Kelly will help me grow not only as a college coach, but as a whole person. I am beyond excited to become a Bronco and help bring this team to a new level."
Cifuentes will be making her coaching debut in her role with the Broncos. A 2017 graduate of Northern Arizona, she was a two-time all-conference selection for the Lumberjacks after beginning her collegiate golf career at San Jose State. She turned her love of golf into a career with a three-year stint as an assistant golf professional at the Pinnacle Peak Country Club in Scotsdale, Ariz., and most recently was working as a legal consultant prior to joining the Broncos.
