    Santa Clara women’s soccer head coach Jerry Smith announced the addition of eight players to his roster for the 2011 season today. The Bronco class of 2015 will be coming from a mixture of western states, including four from California and one each from Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, and Wyoming.
  • Henninger, Angeli Called Into U.S. Senior Women's National Team Training Camp

    Junior Bianca Henninger and former Bronco Jordan Angeli '09 were two of 32 players that received calls to participate in the U.S. Senior Women's National Team training camp in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. from Feb. 3-9. The camp will serve as a precursor to 2011 Algarve Cup in Portugal and at the conclusion of the camp, an 23-player roster will be picked for the trip to Portugal.

    The WCC Fall All-Academic teams were released today by the West Coast Conference and Santa Clara boasts 19 student-athletes on the list; eight divided amongst the teams and another 11 receiving honorable mention. Only one other school, Portland, placed more student-athletes on the conference’s all-academic lists than Santa Clara.

    Santa Clara’s junior goalkeeper Bianca Henninger has been honored by U.S. Soccer as the Young Female of the Year it was announced today. In addition, for their excellence at the highest levels of the sport, U.S. Soccer named U.S. Men’s National Team forward Landon Donovan as the 2010 Male Athlete of the Year and U.S. Women’s National Team forward Abby Wambach as the 2010 Female Athlete of the Year. Under-20 MNT defender Gale Agbossoumonde won the Young Male Award.

    The No. 19 Santa Clara women’s soccer team saw its season come to an end today, falling 2-1 to No. 1 Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. Senior Kendra Perry scored the Broncos’ lone goal in the 74th minute in a late push to tie the game, but SCU couldn’t overcome the nation’s top team, ending the season with a 13-7-2 overall record (4-3-0 WCC).

Cagan Stadium. Junior Bridgett Miller scored the game’s only goal in the 84th minute and junior goalie Bianca Henninger stopped 12 shots in her eighth shutout of the season.
