SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball head coach Lisa Mize announced the signings of four players to national letters of intent on Monday. The Broncos will welcome Sarah Ellersick, Jessica Goodspeed, Kat Sanchez, and Lauren Schiek as freshman for the 2018 season.
"I'm excited to welcome Lauren Schiek, Katherine Sanchez, Jessica Goodspeed, and Sarah Ellersick," Mize said. "These players come to us with a wealth of experience in playing for, and competing against, top competition. They will have the opportunity to make a strong impact on the future of our program. We can't wait to have them be a part of our Bronco family."
Ellersick is a catcher from Villa Park, Calif. Where she attended Rosary Academy. She is a four-year letter winner and was voted the team MVP. In 2016 Ellersick was given the CIF Sportsmanship Award. A three-time Second Team All-Trinity League selection, she was named defensive player of the year in 2015 and rookie of the year in 2014.
Goodspeed is a pitcher from San Ramon, Calif. and attended Canyon. She won the varsity pitching award as a freshman and her team snapped a 15-year playoff drought with Goodspeed's help.
Sanchez is an infielder/outfielder from Albuquerque and attended La Cueva. She was named First Team All-6A as a sophomore and a junior and was a team captain in her junior season. Her team won the district championship in both 2015 and 2016 and won the metro championship in 2016.
Schiek, a pitcher/first baseman/outfielder, hails from Oshkosh, Wisc. And attended Lourdes Academy. She is a career .497 hitter and has 183 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched with a 0.93 ERA. Schiek has racked-up the awards in her three years of high school softball. All three seasons she was a team captain, the team MVP, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-City. She was also the conference player of the year as a sophomore and junior.
