Women’s Tennis – Pothoff and Gevargiz Recognized With All-Conference Honors
 
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis players Maddie Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz garnered All-West Coast Conference honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday.  
 
Pothoff was named All-WCC Singles First Team as well as All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention.  
 
Gevargiz was also named All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention.  
 
The all-conference voting and major awards were voted by the 10 conference head coaches.  
 
Pothoff boasted a team best 11-5 singles record in dual match play, all at the No. 1 spot.  The junior climbed as high as No. 86 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Rankings and beat two nationally ranked players during the season, downing No. 67 Stephanie Schrage of Princeton and No. 22 Michaela Gordon of Stanford.  
 
It was the second all-conference singles recognition for Pothoff who was named Second Team last season.  
 
Pothoff and sophomore Gevargiz teamed up to play at the No. 1 doubles spot all season finishing with a 11-4 record in dual season including 3-4 in conference play.  
 
For Gevargiz, it is her first all-conference honor.  
 
Santa Clara finished its season last weekend going 6-12 overall and 2-7 in conference.  
 
Gonzaga's Sophie Whittle was named WCC Player of the Year.  San Diego's Solymar Colling was named Freshman of the Year with the Toreros' Sherri Stephens taking home the Coach of the Year honors.
