Women’s Tennis Falls to Cal Poly in Dual Match Opener
UPDATE (7:45 p.m. PT, Friday, Jan. 31, 2020) - First serve for Sunday's match against Nevada is now at 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m.
 
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Emily Ackerman recorded the clincher for Cal Poly who defeated Santa Clara women's tennis 6-1 on Friday afternoon in the spring season dual match opener for the Broncos.
 
Up 3-0 in the team score, Ackerman took down freshman Giulia Hayer 6-4, 6-2 on court six to help Cal Poly (2-0) earn their second win of the season.  While the outcome of the team win-loss was decided on that match, the head coaches for the two squads elected to play out all the singles matches.  
 
Cal Poly took the doubles point when Dominique Stone and Kim Bhunu clinched it on court three over Caitlyn Frankel and Jamie Schroer 6-2.  
 
The Mustangs followed suit with singles wins on court two and five.  On court two, Emily Monaghan handled Elvena Gevargiz 6-3, 6-0 and Melissa LaMette took care of Caitlyn Frankel 6-1, 6-3 to pick up the third point for Cal Poly.  
 
Maddie Pothoff picked up the lone win for the Broncos when she came back to down Susanne Boyden in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) on court one.
