SANT CLARA, Calif. – Saint Mary's came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Santa Clara women's tennis 4-3 on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center.

Santa Clara (2-9, 0-3) raced to a 3-0 lead in the team score on the strength of its doubles wins and singles victories by Varya Zlotnik and JennaMarie Gordon but Saint Mary's (4-7, 2-2) won the last four singles matches to take the match.

Gabriela Tevez clinched the match for the Gaels with a court four triumph over Katherine Petty 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-0.

The two teams split the first two doubles matches before Gordon and Hayer downed Jocelyn Massey and Aubane Ville 7-6 (7-5) to earn the doubles point in favor of the Broncos.

In singles action, Zlotnik beat Ville in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 on court six followed by Gordon's win over Jordan Harris 6-4, 6-3 on court two to put the Broncos up 3-0.  Both Zlotnik and Gordon had two wins on the day.

The Gaels mounted its comeback starting on court three when Danielle McIntyre took down Jamie Schroer 7-5, 6-3.

With the Broncos up 3-2, the battle between Massey and Hayer went to three-sets 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in favor of the Gaels player.

The Broncos travel to the Pacific Northwest to face Gonzaga on Friday and Portland on Saturday.
