Volleyball hosts Cal Poly Saturday and Pancreatic Cancer Walk!May 04, 2011Santa Clara finishes its spring season of competition on Sat., May 7 when it hosts Cal Poly at 10 am in the Leavey Center. The match is free and open to the public. Prior to hosting Cal Poly, the Santa Clara volleyball team will help host the third annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer Walk on the Mission Campus. Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 am and walk-ups are welcome and encouraged! The walk begins at the Leavey Center at 8:30 am. The volleyball team has raised over $55,000 in the last three years for cancer research and support.

Volleyball Continues Practice with Matches at USF Tournament SaturdayApril 27, 2011Splitting with UOP and Saint Mary’s before defeating Stanford 2-0 on April 14 in Palo Alto, Santa Clara will take the courts again this weekend in San Francisco to continue its Spring schedule of play. Santa Clara will play San Jose State, UC Davis, San Francisco State and Cal in the tournament hosted by USF.

Broncos Get Ready for Play at Stanford on ThursdayApril 12, 2011Santa Clara will play at Stanford on Thurs., April 14 as the Bronco volleyball team continues to play its spring volleyball schedule. Santa Clara will play two sets vs. Pacific and Saint Mary’s beginning at 6:30 pm (order hasn’t been set) and then finish the evening with Stanford at 8:30 pm. The matches will be two sets each to 25.

Volleyball Opens Spring Schedule at UOP SaturdayApril 07, 2011Santa Clara opens the spring volleyball season on Sat., April 9 at Pacific in a nine-team tournament in Stockton. This spring will feature a twist on competition due to new NCAA rules, but it’s one rule that won’t effect the Broncos much due to such strong volleyball competition in the Bay Area.

Bronco Volleyball Hosts Third Annual Walk 4 Pancreatic CancerMarch 03, 2011Please join Santa Clara Bronco Athletics to walk in the Third annual Walk 4 Pancreatic Cancer. It is organized by Bronco head volleyball coach Jon Wallace and volleyball program along with the Morey/Mariani Family. All are invited, especially the Santa Clara Community! The walk has generated $66,000 in the last three years. All proceeds go to UCSF Pancreas Cancer Research.

Santa Clara Volleyball In The Gym Getting Better Every DayFebruary 16, 2011The Santa Clara volleyball team may not start spring practice until March 28, but the Broncos have been working hard in the gym and the weight room this winter by focusing on strength and conditioning and individual training. SCU Lands Eight On WCC Fall All-Academic Teams; 11 More Earn Honorable MentionJanuary 26, 2011The WCC Fall All-Academic teams were released today by the West Coast Conference and Santa Clara boasts 19 student-athletes on the list; eight divided amongst the teams and another 11 receiving honorable mention. Only one other school, Portland, placed more student-athletes on the conference’s all-academic lists than Santa Clara.

Schmidt Stands Out on the Court and in the ClassroomJanuary 06, 2011Santa Clara has had many super-star student-athletes walk across the Mission Campus over the years. The volleyball team has one of those currently in junior Tanya Schmidt. Named All-WCC First Team this past fall, Schmidt also stands out on the campus and in the classroom as a leader.

Three Broncos Named to All-WCC Volleyball TeamsNovember 24, 2010Three Bronco volleyball players were named to the West Conference all-conference teams on Wednesday, including junior Tanya Schmidt, who was named to the All-WCC First Team. It is the 13th year in a row Santa Clara has had at least one person on the All-WCC First Team. Sophomores Dana Knudsen and Kaleigh Durket were both named to the WCC Honorable Mention list.

Volleyball Travels to USF for Last Match FridayNovember 18, 2010Santa Clara travels to San Francisco for its last volleyball match of the season vs. the Dons on Fri., Nov. 19 at 7 pm. Santa Clara will need some things to happen in the WCC, but with a win the Broncos will help themselves finish in fourth place.

Volleyball Falls in Three at No. 18 San DiegoNovember 11, 2010Santa Clara lost in three at No. 18 San Diego on Thursday night as USD stayed undefeated in WCC play with an 11-0 record. Game scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-8. The Broncos played without starter Kayla Lommori who is second on the team with 3.16 kpg. Lommori suffered an ankle sprain while warming up and is expected to be out the rest of the season.

Volleyball Hosts Final Two Home Matches of the YearNovember 03, 2010Santa Clara volleyball plays its final two home matches this weekend. It hosts Gonzaga on Thurs., Nov. 4 at 7 pm and then Portland on Senior Day on Sat., Nov. 6 at 1 pm. Santa Clara will be celebrating four seniors on their day: Emily Burke, Alex Scoffone, Krista Kelley and Morgan Doherty. Scoffone has been unable to play the last two seasons and Kelley didn’t play this year, both due to injury.

With Santa Clara wearing pink during the match, all proceeds collected from the DIG PINK match will be donated to a local Breast Cancer Care Center. No. 23 San Diego, currently in first place of the WCC standings, rolls into town on Sat., Oct. 16 for a 1 pm tilt with the Broncos.
