SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's water polo team dropped a 14-4 decision to 16th-ranked UC Davis this afternoon at the Leavey Pool. It marks the Broncos' first loss of the year as the team moves to a 2-1 overall record.

Senior Becky Hong led the Broncos in scoring, with two goals. Senior Kelley Mays and freshman Bryn Asher added one apiece.

The Aggies opened a 6-0 lead in their season opener in the first half, spreading the scoring among six players. Davis capped the contest with two goals each by Alia Hansen and Mary Dentice in the fourth quarter. Hansen led all scorers with four goals.

"I'm pretty happy with the way we played," SCU head coach Keith Wilbur said. "Aside from our seniors, we have some very young field players and Davis is a good team; this was the first time our freshmen were seeing the physical speed and play that is a part of the collegiate game. They are where we want to be at and if we continue to improve, we can make this a closer game."

Santa Clara will return to the pool in two weeks, taking part in the Slugfest Tournament February 15-16. The tournament schedule has not been released yet, but games will be played at the East Fieldhouse Pool on the campus of UC Santa Cruz.
