Women’s Water Polo Earns Split at Aggie Invite

DAVIS, Calif. – Santa Clara women's water polo earned a split in its season-opening tournament.

The Broncos (1-1) defeated Fresno Pacific, 11-5, after falling to UC Davis, 15-5, on Saturday at the Aggie Invite.

Game One: UC Davis 15, Santa Clara 5

Noelle Wijnbelt and Allyson Clague each posted three goals to lead a balanced offensive attack for No. 10 UC Davis which cruised to a 10-5 win over the Broncos.

The Aggies scored four times in the opening 4 minutes of the game and the Broncos were unable to convert with the man advantage.

Hannah Buck drew six kickouts, but the Broncos were only able to connect on 3 of 16 attempts on the power play, including 0-for-10 in the first half when the Aggies built a 10-0 lead.

Emma Allegrucci had a goal and an assist for Santa Clara.

Game Two: Santa Clara 11, Fresno Pacific 5

Hannah Buck and Annie Eldredge each scored three times, and Hailey Eberle added two goals to lead the Broncos to an 11-5 win against Fresno Pacific.

Santa Clara scored on its first two attempts with the man advantage and built a 6-1 lead after 10 minutes.

The Broncos held the Sunbirds scoreless on the power play in their seven attempts.

Lydia Dadd posted 12 blocks to earn the victory.
