Women's Water Polo Plays at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Fresh off a split during opening weekend action, Santa Clara women's water polo gets back in the pool on Saturday.

The Broncos (1-1) will make the trek down the coast to face Cal State Monterey Bay. The game is set to begin at noon and it will serve as the season opener for the Otters.

On Sunday, the Broncos defeated Fresno Pacific, 13-7, and lost to host UC Davis, 11-4, in the Davis Challenge. Santa Clara limited the scoring opportunities against the Sunbirds, but the 10th-ranked Aggies were able score eight times with the man advantage.

"Davis is a very good team," head coach Keith Wilbur. "Early in the season we definitely recognize areas to improve upon. I think we need to limit our turnovers, as that led to counter-attack opportunities for Davis. I also think our 5-on-6 defense needs to improve, as Davis was extremely effective at converting on its 6-on-5 opportunities."

Santa Clara defeated the Otters twice last season, including an 14-11 victory in The Otter Tank on Jan. 26.

Hailey Eberle has led the offensive attack for the Broncos this season with team-highs in goals (six) and assists (five). Lauren Baglietto, Kelly Frumkin, Maggie Oys and Gabi Sicat have each scored twice.

"We are always looking to play great defense, push the counter and control the ball on offense," Wilbur said. "We are also looking to get more movement in our offense, and I think that will help both in controlling the ball and creating good scoring opportunities."
