Women’s Water Polo Falls at Azusa Pacific

GLENDORA, Calif. – Milena Guzmán Ortiz scored five times and assisted on three goals for Azusa Pacific which handed Santa Clara women's water polo a 20-11 loss on Saturday.

Hannah Bradley had three goals and Brianna Erickson posted seven assists for the Cougars (2-2, 2-2) who scored seven of the first eight in the Golden Coast Conference matchup.

Lauren Baglietto, making her first appearance of the season, had three goals and drew four kickouts for the Broncos (0-4, 0-3).

Baglietto's first goal pulled Santa Clara within 8-3 late in the second period, but the Cougars scored twice shortly after intermission third and pulled ahead 14-5 on Guzmán Ortiz's goal with 1:43 remaining in the third quarter.

Elle Fredrickson, Malena Nguyen and Lauren Voss tallied two goals apiece for Santa Clara which was an efficient 5-for-10 with the extra attacker.

But Azusa Pacific held a 43 to 22 shot advantage and scored on five of its eight attempts on the power play.

Mia Battilega, Malena Nguyen, Natalie Brauser, Elle Fredrickson, Lauren Voss and Gabi Sicat started the game along with Alexa Grau in net.
