Michael Griffin is in his third year with the Santa Clara sports performance staff, including first as the assistant director of sports performance.

He oversees all aspects of sports performance for beach volleyball, cross country/track & field, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball

Griffin joined the Santa Clara staff in 2019 as a sports performace coach and was promoted to his current role in August 2021. Prior to joining the Broncos, he worked as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

The native of Lake Arrowhead, California, was also a member of the strength and conditioning staff at the University of Oregon, where he worked with the football team. Prior to Oregon, he worked as a volunteer athletic performance coach at San José State University.

Griffin graduated from Fort Hays State in 2019 with a master’s degree in health and human performance. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Tabor College (Hillsboro, Kansas) in 2016 after studying physical education: strength and conditioning and sports Management. He also played football for the Bluejays and earned all-conference honors as a free safety.

He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Heart Association (CPR & first aid).
