Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – Rowan Trosky
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the eighth member of the 2020 recruiting class, Rowan Trosky, an athletic right-handed pitcher from Carmel High in Carmel, California.

The 6-foot-2 Trosky will captain the Padres this upcoming season after being named team MVP and both the Offensive and Pitcher of the Year in 2019.

"I chose Santa Clara University for many reasons.  Not only is it a great academic school with an amazing campus but I am also very interested by Coach Filter's aspirations and goals for the future.  His ideas about pushing for the best talent and his past coaching stints at San Diego State and Stanford really made it an easy decision to be a Bronco," said Trosky.

Trosky hit .474 during his junior campaign with 10 of his 27 hits going for extra-bases.  On the mound, having transitioned from being a shortstop to a fulltime pitcher only a year and a half ago, he struck out 36 batters over 27 innings while walking only five and held the opposition to a .168 batting average.

"A product of national powerhouse Trosky Baseball, Rowan has developed into one of the best right-handed pitchers in the state, thus earning a spot on the Oakland A's area code team," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.  "The Carmel High ace brings great athleticism and a loose arm that pounds the strike zone with three pitches.  We expect Rowan to have an immediate impact on the pitching staff."

Trosky comes from an impressive baseball lineage with his great grandfather, Hal Trosky, having played in the big leagues for 11 seasons, mainly for the Cleveland Indians in the 1930s and 40s and his grandfather, Hal Jr., for the Chicago White Sox.  Trosky's uncle, Nate, was an All-American at Hawaii Pacific University while cousin Ian Mattiace played for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Our next future Bronco, Case Williams, will be announced the week of Jan. 13.
