NOTES

  • Santa Clara hit .245 as a team in 2021 while averaging 4.7 runs per game. The Broncos hit 45 home runs, seven triples, and 69 doubles while posting a .323 on-base percentage.
  • On the mound, Santa Clara had a 4.34 team ERA while striking out 7.9 batters per nine innings and posting a 2.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • The Broncos have to replace the production of their top four hitters from last season who all hit over .286. Dawson Brigman had the highest batting average among returners with a .258 mark in 48 games. He hit five doubles and a triple while knocking in 17 runs and scoring 17. His brother Coleman is also back after hitting .254 with seven doubles and two home runs to go with 10 RBIs and a team-high tying 30 runs scored.
  • Cole Kitchen leads the returners in 2021 ERA with a 3.58 mark. He appeared in 16 games and made four starts while tossing 50 1/3 innings. Alex Reelfs tossed 42 1/3 in 14 games out of the bullpen and picked up a pair of saves.
  • The Broncos will rely on three grad transfers in 2022. Catcher Cal Christofori comes from Yale, RHP Drake Davis comes from Minnesota, and IF Alex Lambeau comes from LMU.
  • Santa Clara also welcomes 13 freshmen in Nick Bacura, Karthik Gondy, Thomas Gould, Blake Hammond, Robert Hipwell, Nolan Lopez, Luke Mansy, Will Pappas, Sam Smith, Nico Stanley, Johnny Tarantino, Mike Villani, and Malcolm Williams.
  • The Broncos face a tough schedule featuring four postseason teams from 2021 in Stanford, Arizona State, Gonzaga, and TCU. The Cardinal made it to the College World Series. They will also take on Power 5 teams USC, Cal, Texas A&M, Washington State, and Arizona State.
