Baseball Topped at Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. – Santa Clara baseball lost its Saturday game 8-3 at Washington State.

The Broncos (18-15) briefly held a lead after scoring three in the second but the Cougars (24-13) came right back to tie it in the bottom of the frame. They would then add single runs in the fourth, fifth, and eighth innings and two in the sixth.

Jonah Advincula and Jacob McKeon both had two RBIs out of the top two spots in the lineup. Advincula scored twice with McKeon having a three-hit day. Sam Brown had a pair of doubles and an RBI with Kyle Russell also adding two hits.

Grant Taylor (3-2) went 5 innings in the start to collect the win. He allowed three runs on two hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Caden Kaelber tossed the final 4 innings to get his second save of the year.

Santa Clara got two hits and two RBIs from Dawson Brigman out of the leadoff spot. Robert Hipwell and Malcolm Williams also added singles with Johnny Luetzow picking up an RBI.

Nick Sando (1-3) took the loss in a 4 inning start. He surrendered four runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
