Baseball Beats Washington State in Series Finale

PULLMAN, Wash. – Aided by the longball, Santa Clara baseball won the finale of its three-game series at Washington State 8-3 Sunday afternoon.

Malcolm Williams, Coleman Brigman, and Ben Steck were the three Broncos (19-15) to go yard and help Santa Clara erase a 2-0 deficit after the first inning.

The offense did well outside of the home run as well, with Thomas Ferroggiaro collecting three hits with a run scored and an RBI. Michael O'Hara also had two hits, including an RBI double, with Efrain Manzo adding two hits and JonJon Berring hitting a double with two runs scored.

Blake Hammond (4-1) picked up the win in relief of starter Jared Feikes. Hammond allowed just an unearned run on two hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Feikes went 4 1/3, giving up two runs on five hits with two walks and two punchouts.

The Cougars (24-14) jumped out to a 2-0 lead three batters into the first after back-to-back singles from Jonah Advincula and Jacob McKeon were followed by a two-run double from Sam Brown. Four others collected a single each in the game.

Jacob Gabler (0-1) got hung with the loss after getting just one out. He allowed two runs on a hit with a walk and a strikeout. Starter Spencer Jones went 3 innings and surrendered a run on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
