Broncos Take Down San Jose State 79-57 To Cap Nonconference Play

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Behind a balanced scoring attack, Santa Clara men's basketball picked up their first true road win of the season on Tuesday evening, defeating San Jose State, 78-57, to put a cap on their non-conference schedule. The Broncos finished the non-conference slate with 10 wins, their most since 2012-13. 

Five individuals finished in double figure scoring, led by 20 from Jalen Williams. Carlos Stewart, in just his second-career start, scored a season-high 16 points while the Broncos got 15 from Keshawn Justice, 14 from Josip Vrankic and 10 from Giordan Williams off the bench. 

Justice also tied his season-high of 13 rebounds to tally his WCC-leading sixth double-double of the season. 

The Broncos (10-5) led by 12 at the halftime break and opened the second half with authority, scoring the first 12 points to take a 24-point lead at 49-24. Santa Clara held the double-digit advtange for the remainder of the night, leading by as much as 28 midway through the half. 

The Broncos 48 percent from the floor for the night while limiting San Jose State to a 35 percent clip, including just 16 percent from 3-point range. 

The Spartans were led by Shon Robinson's 16 points while Omari Moore chipped in 13 points (all in the second half). 

NOTES

  • Santa Clara has now won three-straight in the series and is 83-30 all-time against the Spartans.
  • This is the second game this season in which five scorers have scored in double figures and the ninth game in which four have done so.
