Justice Reaches 1,000 Career Points In Broncos Loss To No. 2 Gonzaga

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball senior forward Keshawn Justice put his name in the school record books on Saturday, becoming the 36th player in program history to score 1,000 career points with a 13-point outing against No. 2 Gonzaga inside the Leavey Center. Justice, who needed just eight points to reach the milestone at tip-off, secured the 1,000th point on his second 3-pointer of the game with just over six minutes remaining at the half. He finished 3-of-7 from downtown and 5-of-13 from the floor for 13 points as one of five Broncos to score in double-figures.

Unfortunately, despite another balanced scoring effort from Santa Clara, No. 2 Gonzaga was just too much to handle as they shot the lights out with a 58.7 scoring clip (44-of-75) and ran away with a 115-83 victory.

Jalen Williams once again led the Broncos in scoring with 17 points despite drawing constant pressure from the Bulldog Defense. Parker Braun scored 11 for his second-straight game in double figures while both PJ Pipes and Giordan Williams finished with 10 points to give Santa Clara five scorers in double figures for the fourth time this season.

Santa Clara (11-6, 1-1) gave the Zags everything they could early on, however Gonzaga rattled off a 31-8 run to grab control of the contest midway through the first half. That lead was never surrendered as the Bulldogs led by 21 at the half at 60-41. It was Gonzaga's third-straight game in which they have scored 60 points in the opening half.

The Broncos scored eight unanswered in the second half to cut the deficit to 16, but that was as close as Santa Clara would get. Gonzaga closed the door on any hopes of a comeback and went on to win 115-83 for their third-straight game over 100 points.

Santa Clara finished with a 39.7 shooting clip and was 8-of-26 from 3-point range. They finished with 10 steals with Braun responsible for a career-high three.

Gonzaga (14-2, 3-0) had six players reach double figures with Drew Timme scoring a game-high 32 points on 14-of-18 shooting. The Zags knocked down 12-of-26 3-pointers and controled the boards 46-39.

NOTES

  • Jalen Williams' 17 points extended his streak to 17-straight games this season in double figures.
  • Jacob Holt scored a career-high six points off the bench.
  • This is the fourth time this year that five players have scored in double figures and the 12th time that at least four have done so.
