Men's Hoops Heads To #12 Gonzaga On Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball has two road games on the docket for this week, beginning Thursday night with a late night showdown against No. 12/14 Gonzaga inside the Kennel in Spokane, Wash. The game will be nationally televised by CBS Sports Network.

NOTES

  • The Broncos are looking to get back on track with two road trips this week beginning with a Thursday trip to Spokane and a Saturday evening showdown on the Hilltop vs. USF.

     

  • SCU is coming off a tough 95-89 loss to Pacific.

  • Brandin Podziemski leads the team in PPG (19.0), RPG (8.2), APG (3.3) and SPG (1.89). He ranks second in the WCC in RPG and third in PPG.

  • Podziemski is coming off a career-high 38 points against Pacific - his third 30-point game of the season (most since Jared Brownridge in 2016-17).

  • Podziemksi is one of just 11 players in the nation averaging 19.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg. 

  • Podziemski has seven double-doubles, which ranks second in the WCC.

  • Keshawn Justice ranks 16th in school history in career scoring (1,492) and has the fifth-most appearances in school history (134).

  • Justice leads the WCC in 3-pointers made (64), attempted (177) and per game (2.78).

  • Carlos Stewart ranks 9th in the WCC in total ppg (15.0) and fourth in FT percentage (84.4).

  • Podziemski and Stewart rank in the top 5 in the league in total steals. 

  • Santa Clara ranks 28th nationally in rebounds per game (39.0).

  • Parker Braun is tied for the WCC lead with 5.9 Defensive RPG in league play and is fifth with 7.4 total RPG in league games.

  • The Broncos have had two players score 20 or more on five occasions.

  • The Broncos lead the WCC with just 15.2 fouls per game.

  • Podziemski won WCC Player of the Week honors twice in the first five weeks of the year.  He's the first Bronco since Jared Brownridge in 2016-17 with multiple WCC POTW honors. 

  • Braun is tied for third in the league with 24 blocks. Jaden Bediako is right behind him tied for 5th with 23. The Broncos are 3rd as a team with 3.6 per game. 

  • Herb Sendek has 526 victories, tied for 61st most all-time in D1 history.

  • With a 12-3 mark, SCU tied for their 2nd most non-conference wins in program history.

  • No. 12/14 Gonzaga features the nation's top scoring offense at a mark of 86.3 ppg with a 51.8 shooting percentage (also first in the nation). The Zags are 18-4 overall and currently second in the WCC standings with a 7-1 mark in league play. All-America forward Drew Timme, recently named to the Wooden Award Late Season Watch List, once again is The Bulldogs' top scoring threat at 21.4 ppg (first in WCC) while also leading the team with 7.5 rebounds per game. 

  • This will be the second meeting between the programs in 2023. The Broncos gave Gonzaga everything they had in the first installment on Jan. 7 in the Leavey Center, but ultimately fell 81-76. Gonzaga holds a 69-30 lead in the all-time series. SCU is looking for their first win over the Zags since Jan. 20, 2011 (85-71) and first win in Spokane since Feb. 12, 2007 (84-73).

Saturday's game will be a national television broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Rich Waltz (play-by-play), Dan Dickau (analyst) and Evan Washburn (sideline) will have the call live from Spokane.

HOW TO LISTEN
All home games and road contests can be heard on the TuneIn app (subscription required), while a majority of the games can be heard on KDOW-AM 1220. Anthony Passarelli, in his 16th year as the Voice of the Broncos, will have the call live from Spokane.
