Former Men's Golfers Shine in Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying

Two former Santa Clara men's golfers have impressed in Korn Ferry Tour qualifying.

Matt McCarty and Hayden Shieh each advanced to the final qualifying stage thus earning membership on the 2022 tour.

McCarty, who finished his Bronco career last season, was one of 23 golfers to advance from the second stage that was played at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He carded a 3-under 281 (74-69-68-70) to tie for 14th. Six golfers were tied for 18th at 2-under.

Shieh, meanwhile, was one of seven golfers in a seven-way tie for 13th place at the second stage qualifier that was held at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, California. He fired a 9-under 279 (72-69-66-72).

The finals are set for Nov. 4-7, at The Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia.

Shieh has played professionally since finishing his Bronco career in 2018.

He and McCarty helped lead Santa Clara to the 2018 NCAA Regionals. Shieh was an individual qualifier to the NCAAs each of the the previous three seasons.

McCarty qualified for the 2020 U.S. Amateur and appeared as an individual to the 2021 NCAA Regionals.
