HENDERSON, Nev. - Senior men's golfer Jack Avrit had himself a great start at the 2022 West Coast Conference Championship, opening the tournament with a 2-under 70 to tie for third. He is just one stroke behind the co-leaders.

Avrit had four birdies in his opening 18 holes of play, all of which coming on par fives. He finished the day as one of just 10 players in the 45-man field to finish under par.

Not far behind his teammate sits Alejandro Gutierrez, who shot 1-over 73 and is tied for 18th. Gutierrez had a pair of birdies but his highlight of the day was an eagle on the par-5 No. 12.

Berk Harvey (2-over 74) is tied for 22nd, Jolo Magcalayo (4-over 76) is tied for 32nd and Zack Kaneshiro (6-over 78) is tied for 39th.

Santa Clara as a team finished the round 5-over 293 and is currently in sixth place. Pepperdine and LMU shared the day one lead at even-par 288.

BYU's Cole Ponich and Riley Lewis of LMU are the day one leaders at 3-under 69.
